My Vehicle has a 'Q' Plate - Can I Change it?
In a word, No. “Q” registrations are given to vehicles as replacement marks as the age is difficult to determine. Usually “Q” plates are given to kit-cars where the vehicle is made up of various other vehicles. If your vehicle has a Q plate, you are unable to change.

At this point in time, “Q” plates are non-transferrable and so they cannot be sold either. The DVLA may issue an age-related vehicle registration number if sufficient documentary evidence is submitted to prove a vehicle’s age but at present transfers to “Q” plated vehicles are banned.
Can I buy a Q Plate.
Again, Q registrations have never been released as a general issue between the other year letter indicators of P and Q so there is no year to identify the age. This means that its highly unlikely that DVLA will ever release any Q plates for sale so if your name is Quentin or Queen then sadly you are are out of luck for the foreseeable future.
