If you were a contestant on “Who wants to be a Millionaire” and the £1,000,000 question was “What is a Dodge Tomahawk?”, which of the 4 answers would you choose?
- A. An ancient Indian Artifact
- B. A Type of American Motorcycle
- C. A type of American Truck
- D. An American fighter plane
If you have even a limited knowledge of motor vehicles you would have responded in the same way that we did. ” Its probably “C”. A huge 4 wheel drive truck. A 4x4”. And guess what? You would be wrong. Very wrong.
So now a lot of you are probably wondering what on earth a Dodge Tomahawk actually is, and to be fair, so were we at this point. So we thought we would do the usual thing and Google it, being the curious people we are. You will probably be just as surprised as we were to hear that it is in fact the answer is “B”. A type of motorcycle but that seems to be a pretty pathetic description if the claims to its performance are to be believed.

The Dodge Tomahawk uses a V10 8.3 litre engine that’s used in the Dodge Viper model but when its only propelling a frame weighing 680 kilos in a motorcycle compared with at least 1580 kilos in the car then its easy to realise that this thing is going to be a beast in the fullest sense of the word.
Dodge Tomahawk Overview
The Dodge Tomahawk is a concept motorcycle introduced by Dodge at the 2003 North American International Auto Show. Known for its outlandish design and extraordinary power, the Tomahawk is not a traditional motorcycle but rather an experimental vehicle that combines automotive and motorcycle design. It features a V10 engine derived from the Dodge Viper, making it one of the most powerful concept bikes ever created.
Design and Development
The Dodge Tomahawk’s design is unlike anything seen in the motorcycle world. With four wheels (two front and two rear, paired closely together) instead of the usual two, the Tomahawk is more of a motorcycle-car hybrid. Its bold design and futuristic appearance garnered significant attention at its debut, with its chrome bodywork and the exposed V10 engine as the focal points. Each of the Tomahawk’s wheels can move independently to offer better stability during cornering, making it a unique handling experience.
Chassis and Drivetrain
The heart of the Dodge Tomahawk is its 8.3-litre V10 engine, borrowed from the Dodge Viper sports car. This engine produces a staggering 500 horsepower, which is far more than any traditional motorcycle. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a manual transmission, offering impressive performance characteristics.
Practicality and Usability
The Tomahawk was never intended for mass production or daily use. It was more of an exercise in engineering and design, demonstrating the extremes of what is possible in motorcycle development. Only a handful of models were ever built, and they were sold as display pieces rather than functioning road vehicles.
Dodge Tomahawk Performance
So what is the expected performance of this super machine? Hold on to your hats, because this beauty will get to 60 in just 2.3 seconds and reach speeds of over 400 mph!!! Thats even quicker than a Bugatti Veyron. But is that right? It seems hard to believe. It would be scary to reach those speeds in a car and you’d feel a little more protected in that. We just can’t imagine hitting speeds like that on a bike. But sadly these claims are just hearsay as there’s no actual proof, as no one has actually ridden it at those speeds to prove this is accurate. In fact, the top speed that has ever been reached on the road was just over 100mph.
Back in 2003, Dodge the manufacturer, made claims that it was capable of a top speed of 420mph although this top speed claim was only based on pro-rata figures and horsepower calculations and when put on the spot, a spokesperson reduced this claim to nearer 300mph although, again Dodge never proved this.
This 4 wheeled machine is odd looking, we grant you. It’s not the usual design you would expect from other motorcycle brands like Ducati, Suzuki and so on, but spinning around town on one of these, would certainly make jaws drop and would make other bike riders envious.
{image2 ]The more we look at it, the more it reminds me us of the BatPod used in the Dark Knight series of Batman films. We can just picture him spinning around Gotham City, saving lives. Maybe its the Dodge Tomahawk that gave the idea to the Batman producers, as the design is very similar. We think every man loves a super hero, it brings out the inner child in them, so for men and their toys, this Dodge would be the perfect thing, You’d be the envy of all your friends.
Legacy and Market Impact
The Dodge Tomahawk remains one of the most talked-about concept vehicles due to its extreme design and performance potential. Though it was never street-legal or mass-produced, its unveiling generated significant buzz and interest in futuristic vehicle designs. It also highlighted the potential for crossovers between automotive and motorcycle engineering.
The Dodge Tomahawk is a one-of-a-kind concept that pushes the boundaries of what is possible in vehicle design and performance. With its V10 engine, unique four-wheel layout, and outlandish performance claims, it stands as a symbol of engineering ambition. Though it was never intended for practical use, the Tomahawk remains a legendary concept that continues to capture the imagination of automotive and motorcycle enthusiasts alike.
