Although Jenson failed his driving test for driving too close to a parked vehicle, at 18 he moved onto car racing instead. He won numerous events including British Formula Ford Championship and the Formula Ford Festival at the beloved Brands Hatch circuit. Towards the end of 1999 Jenson secured a seat with Williams racing, making him the youngest ever Formula 1 driver.
He had big boots to fill as he was compared to Ayrton Senna by the head of his previous karting team and the Williams technical director at the time, Patrick Head , said he was a star of the future. How right he was. His racing debut wasn’t that memorable as he crashed in practice at the Australilan Grand Prix. He achieved 6th in the next race in Brazil which at the time made history as the youngest ever driver to score points at an F1 grand prix. Although Button was more successful than his team mate Ralf Schumacher, Williams were only using him whilst they negotiated a deal with Juan Pablo Montoya who replaces Jenson half way through the season. Since then Jenson Button has driven for Benetton in 2001, Renault in 2002, BAR, Honda, Brawn and more recently with McLaren.
